Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles follows the adventures of four mutated turtle brothers—Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo—who live hidden beneath New York City in the sewers. Raised and trained by their wise sensei, Master Splinter, the turtles learn the art of ninjutsu and grow up believing their purpose is to protect the city from danger. While investigating the crimes, the turtles accidentally cross paths with April O’Neil, a determined young reporter who is searching for the truth behind the rising chaos. Shocked by the turtles’ existence but impressed by their bravery, April becomes the first human to earn their trust.
As April learns about their origin—that they were once ordinary pet turtles mutated by a chemical substance—she begins to help them uncover the Foot Clan’s activities. The group discovers that the clan is controlled by the Shredder, a ruthless warrior with a personal vendetta against Splinter. Shredder plans to use New York City as a testing ground for a dangerous chemical weapon, one that could plunge the population into chaos and establish his dominance. Splinter warns the turtles that the threat is greater than anything they have faced before, forcing them to confront not only an army of trained fighters but their own fears about being different.
The turtles soon find themselves in their first major battle. Though inexperienced and sometimes distracted by their sibling rivalries, they learn quickly how to combine their abilities.
